Birth of the Club

How it all started, told by one of the Founders ( Neill Watt )

STIRLING AND DISTRICT CLASSIC CAR CLUB
In response to a small advertisement in the local press some 10 people attended a meeting in the Sword Hotel, Stirling, in August 2000. This was the start of the club and most of the attendees joined up at that meeting.
The early days of the club consisted of regular meetings and club outings. The meetings usually had a speaker – either invited or “home-grown” – who gave a talk on some topic of motoring interest. The outings took the form of club runs, visits to local motor museums or other places of interest. Members were all enthusiasts and it showed.
As time went on members attended shows in the central area and the membership grew as the club became better known. We had our own committee, our own constitution and soon our own newsletter. We were on the map and membership continued to grow.
In 2004 the suggestion was made that we were big enough to run our own event. A date was fixed, a venue was secured and our first annual show took place in Strathallan Games Park, Bridge of Allan in May 2005. This was deemed a success by both club and public and has since become an annual event with a firm place in the motoring calendar.
We have recently held our 8th annual show which attracted a large entry and a large attendance by the public. As well as allowing enthusiasts from far and wide to indulge themselves the annual show has been good for charities. Each year we nominate our chosen charities. To date, over the course of 8 annual shows we have donated some £27,000 to various charities.

I First met the members of this club on Drive It Day 2006, when i wanted to do something for the first Event.
I was in the Toyota Club, and we could just had 4 cars, i wanted more,id heard of the Stirling Club,So got in touch with George Johnston ( Club Chairman at the time ) and he got 8 more, so we now had 12 Classic cars doing the Run.
We met the Stirling Club at Luss,Loch Lomond at 12am, where i met George for the first time, after looking round the cars we headed up Loch Lomond,Stopping for photos near Ardlui, then headed for Crianlarich, where there was not much parking so ended up splitting up,I lined up the 3 Toyotas, with Ben More in the background, and took some more photos, posted them to the Practical Classics.

The photo Practical Classics Printed of the 3 Toyotas .

After a Storm Warning for the West Highlands,Did It put off the Die Hards, Nope. we still had some of the Stirling & Dist ,Oban & Dist,Mini Clan,Strathendrick,Highland & the Austin Healey Clubs ( 6 Clubs ) Set off for Fort William, By the time the Clubs got to the Green Welly, the rain was very heavy and non stop,so about 14 cars turned back, as the Whether was to get worse.
The ( Very Die Hards ) headed up to Fort William.
The Cars had to slow a bit going through Glen Coe,as very heavy rain and high winds, were making it very hard to see ,and steer the Cars.
Once we all got to the Ben Nevis Hotel In Fort William, we all headed In out the rain ,where they was a super Carvery waiting for us.
By the back of 4 the last of us were heading home.
Some stopping off at Glen Coe on the way back to take a break from the Whether ( Very Bad move )
As the wind got wright up, and the rain could not have been any heaver, plus it was very dark,Floods everywhere.

On the good side, Everybody got home ( I think ).
And have somthing to talk about.
20 Cars made It to Fort William out of over 30 cars to start with
